Subway Crossings

As I hurry down the street,
Listening to cars and people in a beat,
And up from the underground comes the sound
Of the subway to take me around.

On the subway I travel into places unknown,
Through tunnel with lights that have grown and grown,
Stopping the train is like time had no control,
Soaring through the city like my own eternal soul.

In the station I pause to behold the light,
Searching the faces of people I'll never know in flight,
Though bleak and bustling, the love of a city is there,
With joy the subway carries anywhere.
